Combining old and new is something we have seen before but throw in some violas, buzzing synthesizers, guitar riffs, pianos, banging kick drums, and some hot samples and you get a small picture of what it is like to be at a live Le Microkosmos show. The indie-electro duo consisting of Guillermo Beresñak and Pablo Retamero have been tearing up Argentine dance floors since they met in west Buenos Aires in January of 2008. Before they even released their first record, the duo won a contest on Myspace against 800 other Argentine bands. Immediately after the competition, Guillermo and Pablo’s career skyrocketed. They were invited to play Creamfields, the biggest electronic music festival in Argentina, which draws about 60,000 people annually where they shared a stage with international stars like Simian Mobile Disco, Boys Noize, Booka Shade, Crystal Castles, and Deadmau5.
By the time they released their debut album Y Vas Donde Sonrisas Te Dan Esos Encapuchados De un Mundo Nuevo in 2009, the two had already caught the attention of local promoters and were playing in several venues across Buenos Aires. It was also around that time when their studio was broken into and they had all of their equipment and work robbed from them. They may have lost thousands of dollars of equipment but they continued their hard work and it certainly paid off. They were invited back to play Creamfields again and also held a European tour that launched from Berlin in June of 2009.
Their most recent release, Remiseria , was an album of original remixes. They successfully infused these tracks with their unique indie-electro flare and it was very well received by press. Le Microkosmos draws influences from several different genres of music and this can be seen in their studio productions. They have remixed tracks by Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, and the Beatles. This eclectic selection really shows their musical versatility. Currently, they have releases on two different record labels, The Mamushka Dogs, an indie-rock label, and The Undertones, an electronic music label. This group can adapt and excel in a wide variety of environments, catering to rock and electronic fans, after seeing them live at the LeBardo Festival and at Creamfields Buenos Aires on the mainstage (along with names like Paul Van Dyk, David Guetta, and Fatboy Slim!) I was very impressed. Expect big things from the duo.
You can download their two CDs free from their myspace
